Children's Hypnotherapist Louise Levy

Not every hypnotherapist works with children. It is to some extent a specialist area, so for your peace of mind do make sure whoever you choose has had specialist training in working with young people and also holds an up to date enhanced CRB Check.

Why chose Hypnotherapy for your child?
Hypnotherapy works by engaging in your imagination and kids are brilliant at this! The results are even more rapid then with adults and it will improve your child's quality of life in just a few sessions.

Why choose this over some other form of talking therapy?
Children with emotional problems are sometimes taken to see a counsellor or psychotherapist where they may be asked to justify their actions and explain things that they often don't understand. Hypnotherapy is more of a natural treatment whereby your child enters a relaxed state and responds to my positive suggestions to achieve a desired outcome.

Building a rapport with the parent; why is this so important?
From the first time I meet your child I will be building a rapport with you too. This is equally as important as establishing a good relationship of trust with your child as your role is to support the work that I do between sessions by offering active praise and a positive attitude towards a successful outcome.

The Consultation: It is important to know that all children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult during the initial Hypnotherapy Consultation

What happens during the initial consultation?
The first part is a chat to find out about how the problem affects your child, what actually happens and to find out how they would prefer to be thinking, feeling and behaving instead. The second part consists of an assessment to check that your child feels comfortable using their imagination. Most children love it!

Building rapport with the child. How important is this?
Getting to understand the world as your child sees it is crucial as well as finding out about them generally. Building on stories, adventures, visualisation using familiar characters such as their favourite cartoon animations, super heroes, TV programmes, music and the computer all work extremely effectively with children.

Can I attend future sessions with my child?
Yes you are most welcome to be in the treatment room if your child is more comfortable with you there, particularly in the case of very young children. However my attention will be totally focussed on your child rather then talking to you about them, and at a certain age your child might feel more inhibited by your presence.

Confidentiality: Will you tell me what goes on in the session?
Whilst I will not be disclosing all detailed information of what your child says during the session I am more then happy to give you an update at the end of each session, keeping you informed on how your child is progressing.

What can I as a parent do to help?
Children pick up on your fears and behaviour like sponges so the first thing you can do is be aware that your words and actions will affect them on a daily basis. For this reason it is also a good idea to consider having a hypnotherapy session yourself (although this is not essential) to create a sense of well being in supporting your child.

Common Concerns
Do you put them to sleep?
Do they go under?
Do you mess with their minds?
The short answer is no. As a member of the CNHC you can rest assured that I adhere to a code of ethics to the highest standard so that any suggestions I make are directed at achieving a positive outcome.
